Juan Haka is a Colombian artist from the city of Medellin with more than 12 years experience tattooing. The originality we see in his designs was inspired by a collection of various techniques, the most notable of which is black and grey realism. However, his style falls within the realm of experimental. His compositions contain strokes of abstract expressionism mixed with dark surrealism. With the help of experimentation in other mediums like painting, drawing and photography, he has managed to create his own aesthetic. According to Juan Haka himself, the most important part of the creative process is to break away from traditional anatomical guidelines surrounding the composition of classic tattoo styles. Rebelling against the rules on how the human body can move in order to see it from new perspectives.
During his undergrad studies in Latin American history at the prestigious National University of Colombia, Juan Haka began taking his first steps in the world of tattooing as an apprentice in a few local studios in Medellin.
He later decided to abandon his formal studies to wholeheartedly pursue his passion for tattooing.
Hoping to expand his artistic career, he began a long search for professional development by working in studios abroad in a number of countries in the Americas and Europe, such as; the United States, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Argentina. His extensive travels gave him the opportunity to work with some very serious players in the tattoo world at that time, like Frank Anglas, a great friend, businessman, mentor and founder of Arcangel Tattoo in Buenos Aires.
Juan Haka is now tattooing in the United States in many different places including, but not limited to: Dallas TX, Orlando FL, Fort Meyers FL, Nashua NH, Boston MA, Chicago IL, and maybe in a place near you soon! We take yearly trips to the UK and Germany too. Click “Contact” for booking and all other inquires.
